Kananginak is widely recognized as the most talented and imaginative of Inuit wildlife artists when it comes to drawings and prints. Kananginak is both admired and collected for his strong, competent draughtsmanship, his knowledge of Arctic animals, and his sometimes-quirky sense of fun. Kananginak intimately knew animal behaviour and movements, but his viewpoints of his beloved subjects were often unusual, including several depictions of animals seen from the rear. (Of course, animals are often seen from the rear, but they are not usually portrayed that way!) With Angujjuak (Biggest Bear), Kananginak simplifies the overall form, yet truly captures the spirit and lumbering physicality of the subject. Marvelous!
