For two decades Lucy Qinnuayuak was one of the most popular and beloved Cape Dorset graphic artists. Her delightful drawings and prints focused mostly on owls and other birds. Wacky compositions, bright colours, and playful textures are Lucy’s trademark, and this drawing is the perfect exemplar of her favoured content and style. As is typical of her imagery, here the birds – each drawn in a quite different style – don’t really interact with characters, but rather are displayed in an almost haphazard manner according to the artist’s whimsy.
