In 1973, Josh, along with his brothers Henry and Goyce, established the Triple K Co-operative, a silkscreen studio in Red Lake.
The present work, Nest of Owls by Joshim Kakegamic, very clearly reflects a shared visual language with Norval Morrisseau and is particularly reminiscent of Morrisseau’s early 1960s works. The bold formlines, earthy tones, and intricate details in Kakegamic's work align with elements found in Morrisseau’s art, suggesting a creative exchange between the two. Both artists present owls frontally, a perspective that draws viewers into the presence of the animals.Provenance
