The pole features, from top: wolf head, frog, raven, and bear. Although the identity of this maker is unknown at this time, it bears a resemblance to pieces made in the Southeastern Alaska communities of Hoonah and Angoon. The adherence to just red, black, and blue-green paints on this pole connect it to classic Tlingit aesthetics and enhances its understated beauty. The unique openwork and strongly orbed eyes may help identify this skilled maker in the future.
