Although she made sculptures steadily for decades, Yuusipik is best remembered for her beautiful works on cloth. Yuusipik also created a series of late-career drawings that were featured in Darlene Coward Wight’s 2019 solo exhibition and catalogue at the WAG. From the mid 1980s on, Yuusipik preferred to carve on relatively large and elaborate compositions. This lovely carving from the early 1980s, however, is decidedly more modest in scale. We love the look of both concentration and consternation as the child plays with what is likely an abstracted ayagaq or bone and cup game.
