The dominant earthy tones — browns and greys — provide a tone that overall subdued and warm. However, the decision to add the bright red mitts creates a vivid contrast against the otherwise muted palette. Red is a powerful colour that naturally draws the eye, and its placement at the center of the composition ensures it becomes the focal point of image.
Bill Ritchie's reflection on the process reveals the practical advantages of digital tools in art creation in Kinngait (see literature citation). By using the computer, the artist was able to experiment with colour without the need for time-consuming physical proofs.
