His unique vision and hand, coupled with his strong feelings about passing on Inuit culture, legends and traditions through art, have made for a distinctive canon of work. Here, in one of Puqiqnak’s most masterful creations, whale bone becomes a canvas for powerful emotions of fear and angst. The woman reacts to some horror unseen by the viewer. The child, perhaps more entranced than terrified, nonetheless clings to its mother who, with hips askew under the child’s weight, has one foot back as if ready to run! Impressive.
