This twined lidded basket is an unusual oblong shape and features dyed purple designs against a field of natural grass. While very similar in appearance to Nuu-chah-nulth or Makah baskets, Quinault baskets differ in their weaving techniques and how grass is utilized as the base of the basket. The expansive, non-figural design used here is also more indicative of Quinault work than their neighbours to the north. The lid fits nicely, and the purple dye has somewhat mellowed, giving this basket a pleasing, warm appearance.Christopher W. Smith
