Is Henry depicting a young bear or an aged one, a male or a female, a hungry bear or a well-nourished specimen? These are all things to consider when looking at the polar bears of Henry Evaluardjuk. While these important details might be lost on the casual viewer they were very of the utmost importance to the artist. Indeed, “Henry bears” can almost be deemed to be polar bear portraits. This incredible fellow is perhaps one of the most sensuous bears we have seen by the artist.
