This Lidded basket is made by accomplished Unangax̂ (Aleut) artist Patsy Rudolph. A similar basket woven by Patsy is held at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. This basket is made with wild rye grass and embroidered with purple and green dyed silk thread in the image of chunusix (wild geraniums), common throughout the Aleutian Islands. Unangax̂ baskets are considered some of the finest in the world, with a tight and intricate weave resembling that of linen. Accompanying the basket is an original tag from Snow Goose Associates (Seattle) with the artist’s name.
