A beautifully constructed pedestal basket and lid made by Nuu-chah-nulth artist Ella Thompson in the 1970’s. Thompson was known for her drumming, singing and skills in basketry making. This basket is made in a wrapped twining method with cedar bark and natural and dyed grass in black, green, yellow and purple. The imagery represents a whaling scene, a common depiction in Nuu-Chah-Nulth basketry.
