In our opinion, Pauta’s way of representing owls is very much like Latcholassie Akesuk’s. This flustered bird is full of humor and personality. The image is one of Pauta’s most charming. It is interesting to note that Pauta was not just a fan of polar bears:
Owls are good to eat. They taste like polar bear. The meat is nice and fatty. They taste a bit like turkey, too. I’ve seen lots of owls, just like I have seen polar bears. Owls are playful, like bear cubs. I enjoy hearing the sounds they make. (From an artist interview with Ingo Hessel, Kinngait, 2004)
