Qavavau is the son of the great graphic artist Paunichea. Qavavau has long been a fixture in the Cape Dorset print studio where he is a master printer in both lithography and stonecut techniques. Always idiosyncratic, Qavavau’s images are quirky, wonderful, and often humorous. This original drawing image is no exception, we love how the viewer is drawn into the image which reveals multiple layers of almost hallucinatory imagery culminating in what is conceivably a self portrait of the artist partially obscured by a shaman’s mask.
