Unlike most carvers who worked with the natural shapes suggested by the raw material, Eekerkik eschewed the monolithic (or its antler equivalent) and constructed his compositions with a multitude of elements and materials. Another revolutionary aspect of Eekerkik’s oeuvre was his adornment of his caribou antler elements. Eeekerkik would literally torch areas of his surfaces as a manner of patination.
