Over 150 of those drawings were turned into prints that were released in the annual print collections between 1965 and 1985, representing the largest body of work published by an Ulukhaqtuuq artist. Many of her works provide a window into her memories and personal experiences growing up on the land, including the design work for traditional clothing and kamiks. In Dance (The Dance), we are treated to some of this graphic design on the figure’s clothing, likely inlaid fur on fur that has been highlighted by the work’s monotone printing. The two figures, arms aloft and legs akimbo, offer a great sense of movement and joy in this work, the scene capturing a moment of action.Provenance
Collection of John and Joyce Price, Seattle.
