Anauta began carving around 1955 and carved actively both in his new community and upon his return to Akulivik in the 1970s (the community was resettled beginning in 1973). Anauta carved various subjects but is best known for his scenes of hunting and camp life. Crouching Woman with Sealskin is an excellent example of his mature style. The artist’s sculptures can be found in numerous public collections including the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Canadian Museum of History, the Glenbow Museum, and the Avataq Cultural Institute.
