The sculpted form, though compact, conveys a sense of mass, as if the bird is bracing itself against unseen Arctic winds. The choice of stone is especially unique—a reddish-brown with lighter toned flecks, as though tiny embers are suspended within its surface. While we cannot say for certain, one wonders if Qaqaq stumbled upon this small stone on the shoreline, turning it over in his hands and envisioning the bird waiting to emerge.Provenance
