The bear’s head and neck, streamlined and fearsome, rise dramatically, capturing the grace and power of a predator. This element is pegged into a separate base which represents the icy waters from which the animal emerges. Adding a layer of tension and fragility, a separate carving of a seal pup is also pegged onto the base, its small form evoking vulnerability as it seeks refuge.
Provenance
Collection of John & Joyce Price, Seattle, WA.
