There are many artists who became important and well respected early in their careers. As demand for their art was strong, they often worked exclusively on large scale sculptures, which they had no trouble selling. Consequently, while their artistic legacies include a wealth of impressive large works, small-format sculptures can be rarer than hen's teeth. What a rare delight, then, to encounter this endearing and diminutive Crouching Inuk, a work that distills all the hallmarks of the artist’s larger sculptures into a form just over four inches tall—perfectly sized to fit conveniently on a bookshelf or mantle.  The meticulous craftsmanship and dedication required to achieve such refinement on a smaller scale are striking, especially when considering that the time and effort invested far surpass the work’s commercial value.
