Davidialuk is best known for his depictions of Inuit folklore, stories, and legends but he was also a great documentarian who chronicled aspects of a traditional lifestyle with aplomb and sensitivity. This delightful sculpture may depict a scene of a very personal nature: perhaps the young Davidialuk himself proudly capturing his first seal. A relatively early work by the artist, Hunter with Captured Seal is rather more carefully carved and detailed than his rustic works from the late 1960s and 1970s.Provenance
