Tuna Iquliq remains a cornerstone of Inuit art, renowned for his ability to distill form into simplified sculptures that capture the raw, unembellished essence of the Kivalliq region’s artistic spirit. This owl by the artist sculpture exemplifies this austere style. The rounded, plump form is striking in its simplicity, yet it exudes a clear sense of solidity and strength. The etched feather markings provide a delicate counterpoint to the stark minimalism of the overall figure, adding subtle texture without detracting from its primal, elemental presence. In this balance of abstraction and detail, Iquliq’s mastery of the medium shines through.
