She was taught to harvest and prepare basket making materials from her mother, Theresa Mathias. Neva was an Artist in Residence at the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum in 2024.
These stunning nesting baskets are constructed in a coiled basketry method with dyed grass wefts in bands of grey striped with singular rows of orange and natural tones. Imbricated into each band of grey are larger strips of orange and natural toned grass, possibly a motif of birds in flight. Each basket is accompanied by a lid that fits perfectly on the basket rim. The bird in flight motif is also depicted on the knobbed lids, but in a backward direction to those on the body of the basket.
