As Sandra Barz has noted, misattributions like this were not uncommon in the 1960s, when prints credited to Kenojuak often sold for higher prices, making such decisions as much economic as artistic.
Still, questions of authorship fade in the face of the print’s vitality. A dynamic group of creatures — some recognizably birds, others fantastical hybrids — leaps from darkness into light, their fins and tails flaring mid-motion. Joanassie Salamonie’s sensitive printing bathes the scene in warm, glowing sun, giving the light its own presence.
