Two slender stems of antler rise with an effortless grace, each crowned with a softly veined flower sculpted from grey marble. The effect is almost paradoxical: stone, typically a symbol of permanence and weight, here takes on an airy, organic quality, as if the flowers might tremble at the slightest touch.
Beneath them, smoothly polished serpentine leaves unfurl in flowing curves, reinforcing the sense of movement. Arnaqu masterfully balances strength and fragility, rendering an illusion of lightness from the most solid of elements. The piece feels alive, imbued with a quiet energy, one that suggests not only the fleeting beauty of flowers but the enduring skill required to carve them from materials that do not bend, do not sway, and yet, in Arnaqu’s hands, almost seem to.
Provenance
Collection of John & Joyce Price, Seattle, WA.
