Morrisseau returned to this theme frequently, using it to explore the harmony and unity inherent in the natural world.
In this diptych, the calligraphic vines stretch across two large canvases, their arcs and curves creating a sense of flowing movement. These stalks are alive with vibrant leaves, with their ends are sometimes crowned with butterflies, symbols of transformation and renewal. Jewel-toned birds emerge from the branches, as well, their forms radiating vitality and connection. At the centre of the composition, divided between the two panels, are glowing orange suns, their warmth and light anchoring the work. Spanning six feet in width, this piece envelops the viewer, its sheer scale and luminous colours creating a symphony of interconnected forms that leave a lasting, poetic impression.
