At the top, an eagle is defined by finely incised feathers and a sharply carved beak. The wings and tail of the eagle are rendered in carefully executed formline designs. Beneath it, an anthropomorphic bear holds an inverted eagle head or mask, its limbs tightly tucked into the form. Each figure is distinct yet integrated, their contours carefully nested within the column. The carving balances smooth, rounded volumes with crisp detailing, using depth and surface contrast to maintain clarity. Although unsigned, the attribution of the pole to Paul Jones is based on the examples of his work in the Lipsett Collection at the Museum of Vancouver.
