The bird faces us head-on, its gaze direct and unwavering, two wide eyes fixed with such intensity they seem to cut through pretense and meet the viewer with startling clarity.. Kenojuak Ashevak, long captivated by birds and especially owls, grants this one a presence that is unmistakably bold. Around its speckled body radiates a wealth of frond-like plumage, alternating in deep red and blue, each feather tipped in black. The effect is almost liturgical: part halo, part crown, part sunburst. This is not an owl merely observed. It is an owl announcing itself, radiant and absolutely sure.
