As Francis Dick shares, "I created this design for a couple of reasons. First, my paternal grandmother was a part of the Raven clan from Kingcome Inlet. It is one of the most beautiful winged creatures of our area. The face at the bottom of the design represents man's connection to the Raven. I have been re-examining traditional formline design of the Northwest Coast, and explored part of my study in creating this piece."
