This plaque, which has a diameter of right around a foot, has over 80 inlays across the design. The plaque depicts the Sun surrounded by six Eagles, a motif that Lewis often returns to and creates at different scales, from larger panels to pendant-sized medallions. The Sun and Eagles are carved in yellow cedar and are painted somewhat sparingly in red, yellow, blue/green, and black. In lieu of much paint, Lewis has filled virtually all of the tertiary space within the design with inlaid pāua shells, creating a distinctive vision of Northwest Coast art.
