But to see it only as souvenir...Solomon Iqquiyuituq’s Sugar Spoon and Rest, a private commission, reflects a long-standing tradition of creating finely crafted works for settler and tourist audiences. But to see it only as souvenir would miss the skill on display. The spoon’s handle is a crisply carved Sedna, her body elongated into function. The bowl is unadorned, smooth, quietly confident. The matching rest, a bird with wings outstretched, feels animated even at rest. Only one question to ask: one lump or two?Provenance
