Born in 1911, Inukpuk became famous for his stone carvings depicting Inuit family life, including tender portrayals of mothers and children, hunters, and everyday activities. In his later years, as...Born in 1911, Inukpuk became famous for his stone carvings depicting Inuit family life, including tender portrayals of mothers and children, hunters, and everyday activities. In his later years, as Inukpuk’s eyesight began to fail, his sculptures became less detailed yet somehow more expressive. With their smoother, rounder, and more fluid shapes, Inukpuk seems to have been working as much by feel as he was by sight. Much like late Picasso, late Inukpuks are an acquired taste, but one we feel is worth acquiring.Provenance
