Early on, he modelled his work after Tiktak, and later drew influence from John Pangnark and Lucy Tasseor. As his practice deepened, Arluk’s voice became unmistakable. His sculptures are often celebrated for their rhythmic movement and embrace of abstraction, where mass and gesture seem to collaborate. While some pieces drift toward the elemental, others retain hints of realism. This Muskox offers a particularly endearing example. Its form is broad and stylized, but its gaze is direct. The rich black stone accentuates the arch of the back and curve of the horns, while the incised eyes offer a moment of gentle connection.
