Throughout history, Indigenous makers have taken advantage of the large canvas provided by bags and tool carriers to adorn them as they pleased. Skilled needlework and an eye for design could result in spectacular scenes of colour and pattern, and something that would be worn with great pride. This modern pouch-style bag is no exception: centrally mirrored to highlight a large central bloom, this panel is dense with beads, carefully laid out to completely mask the hide behind it and to blend one tone into another in petals and leaves. The work is topped with a hide fringe that brings some movement back to the static florals. While only beaded on one side, we would argue that it is absolutely the side worth showing off!
