Beginning in graphite, Harold tended to stick with simply coloured drawings, despite the availability of more hues, and this preference rolled into his print work as well. Knowing that Harold only reluctantly moved off of the land and into Qamani’tuaq a short number of years prior, Men Jigging for Fish is all the more a beautifully simple ode to a practice he likely kept up as long as he could. Small details are punctuated with a bright red ink, from coat hems, a knife handle, and a single fish out of the larger catch, a nice little punch against the black outlines of the figures and dog, the latter patiently waiting for their lunch from the morning’s work.Provenance
