This work centres on the expressive qualities of the face, brought to life through confident carving and subtle curvature. The hooded figure is rendered with softened contours that frame the face, directing attention toward the subject’s high cheekbones, arched brows, and broad, deeply incised lips. The smile, though understated, animates the work and adds a sense of warmth. The surface bears the marks of the artist’s tools, giving texture and depth to the stone. A slight asymmetry in the features enhances its character, suggesting a lived presence rather than an idealized likeness. The sculptor’s restraint allows expression to rise gently from form.
