Larger pieces with a defined presence, and distinctly human. That immediate notion of what Johnny’s work is makes this Swimming Duck all the more charming: smaller (comparatively), and charmingly simple, Swimming Duck floats on unseen water with an ambling speed. The dark stone and minimalist details could give the illusion of a duck’s silhouette, perhaps as he may be seen on the water in the early morning in Inukjuak. This duck may well be a welcome reprieve for the artist, an enjoyment of the simpler things and a quiet visualization of what surrounds his home.Provenance
