This lot features a striking model kayak much like Lot 13. and also features meticulous craftsmanship and detail. The method of construction is similar to Lot 13, sealskin stitched atop a wooden frame. This example is considerably longer than the other kayak and also features an avataq flotation device tethered to a sakku or toggle point harpoon tip indicating that the kayak is kitted out for marine mammal hunting. These models attest to indigenous ingenuity and serve as important historical artifacts. Like the umiaq (Lot 14), these models are exceptionally rare due to the inherent fragility of their sealskin coverings.
