A sporadic contributor to the Pannirtuq Annual Print Collection, Geetaloo Akulukjuak left a small but punchy collection of works to define his artistic career. While most of his works are colourful stencils and stonecuts, A Bountiful Hunt and Plenty for All stands apart. The lithograph, sparse with its use of a singular colour, gives the feeling of a pencil sketch, a moment captured either from Geetaloo’s memory, or from a minute of rest on the tundra. The long paper gives the sled and snowmobile space, nothing feels crowded. Despite the tight lines holding everything down on the sled, the bounty can be picked out and marvelled at by the viewer, and perhaps the lone figure’s neighbours and friends as they return to town.
