His depictions of arctic wildlife, and birds in particular, were so detailed that...Between his experimental prints in 1958 and his death in 2010, Kananginak produced an astonishing 351 images. His depictions of arctic wildlife, and birds in particular, were so detailed that he was often referred to as the “Audubon of the arctic”. Towards the end of his life his imagery became more whimsical, and he experimented with images where large groups of animals were compressed into the frame. Twilight Gathering is less densely populated than his 2005 stonecut and stencil Parliament of Owls but is far more sensitively coloured.Provenance
