    This early composition by Oviloo presents familiar moments in Inuit cosmology: Sedna attended by a shaman. The shaman leans in close behind her, arm outstretched, fingers threading carefully through her hair. The gesture is both intimate and ceremonial, meant to calm the goddess' anger at her tangles so that the sea animals might be released to hunters.


    Sedna steadies herself with one hand pressed against a kamik, a deliberate choice that serves as a sculptural strut. The solution grounds the composition and recalls stabilizing devices known to artists since ancient Greece.
