He was pivotal in introducing Southern Canada to the beauty of Inuit art, instrumental in bringing printmaking to Cape Dorset, and central to the establishment of the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative in 1959. This powerful drawing of a brawny drummer demonstrates Houston’s skill as a draftsman and carries added poignancy, having been created in 1955, just two years before starvation forced the relocation of the Aharmiut (Caribou Inuit).Provenance
