Several faces line the canvas, some stark and some subtle, and one dares you the most to try and look away. One of two Ethnographic portraits, a child is bright against the darkness around her and light washes of hue on her cheeks and chest. While in situ, the language barrier likely caused confusion, the parted lips, and lightly furrowed brow. Today, there is a sense of anger in her eyes that looks right through you. As the canvas is cut into thirds, the child is surrounded by dark clouds of colour and figures, and her elder companion is couched in the chaos below. Pictographs blurs into shapes and colours, as a series of teepees begin to fade into oblivion above it all.Provenance
