The original Kiks.ádi Pole, carved in the late nineteenth century by Tlingit...This brightly coloured model Raven Totem (Kiks.ádi) references one of the most renowned monumental poles of Southeast Alaska. The original Kiks.ádi Pole, carved in the late nineteenth century by Tlingit master artist William Ukas of Wrangell, commemorates the Kiks.ádi clan of Sitka and stands among his most celebrated achievements. Distinguished by its carefully tiered composition, the full-sized pole features a sequence of crests associated with the clan: Mountain, Frog, Raven, Nestling Raven, Beaver, and Frog emerging from Beaver.
In this model, carved by Lincoln Wallace, passages of red, green, and yellow outlined in black animate the surface. The bold palette creates a visual rhythm that guides the eye downward, balancing contrast and form while uniting the figures in a cohesive design.
