To carry two infants together, an amautiq would have required custom construction, a fact reflected in the ample hood that dominates nearly half of the composition here. Within it, the twins are distinguished with care: the boy marked by small strands of hair on his forehead, the girl by a neat centre part. Each appears content, their mother likewise serene. Adding a curious note of whimsy, the woman is depicted as if seated upon two loudly squawking birds.
