In this telling, Sedna meets and marries a fulmar disguised as a handsome man, only to recoil when he reveals himself with “stout legs and lidless eyes.” Johnniebo’s Taleelayo and Sea Bird may be read as more than a simple pairing of figures. The bird, ominous in legend, appears here not only as a creature of unease but also as a partner bound in a fraught union.
