Untitled (Scenes of the Community) brings a different sense of visual narrative to her depictions, as multiple scenes are pieced together on the paper, flowing into and over one another. The upper half of the page is peaceful, with people out for a stroll and neighbours chatting as they pass each other.
The lower half shows some of the chaos of a community; a man on the left is lamenting his predicament by saying “
"ᐊᒪᒃᕈ ᓇᓗᓗ ᑕᒃᓇ" (Now just to catch this wolf) as others gesture at him and the animal. On the right, a woman tends to a child, perhaps while entertaining the small crowd of them seated around her. The restless nature of some children has over, however, as some begin to get distracted and bother each other. As two fight, one is caught off guard and demands, "ᐊᐊ ᓱᐱ?" (Ouch! What are you doing?) A final figure in the centre of the lower half is oblivious to all that is happening, and has been given a descriptive caption for his actions, “"ᐃᕐᒥ ᑕᑐᖅ (He is getting water).First Arts extends our gratitude to Veronica Puskas and Silas Aqna’naaq for their assistance in cataloguing this lot.
