On the left, the sharp geometry of an igloo rises in black outline, its gridded dome accented by a chimney and tools placed neatly at the entrance. At the centre stands a drying line, raised high to keep the skin rope safely out of the dogs’ reach. This tall pole topped with concentric rings, an interesting vertical that interrupts the horizontal flow of the image. To the right, a qomatik (komatik) rests on blocks, its strong, rectilinear form offset by the rounded silhouettes of dogs gathered beneath it. Each element is pared down to essentials, conveying a vision of endurance and adaptation through the simplest of means.Provenance
Collection of John and Joyce Price, Seattle.
