A powerful supernatural being from Haida mythology, Dogfish Woman takes her representation from the small variety of shark found on the Northwest Coast, a breed sometimes known to represent assertiveness and persistence. Portrayed partially face-on here, the Dogfish is distinguished by a high, domed head with distinctive gills and triangular teeth. The multiple staggered fins are splayed out around a tilted tail, and slim crescent moon pupils pop throughout the body, either as otherworldly eyes or bubbles.
