This lovely sculpture of a kneeling woman making a kamik likely dates to the latter half of the 1960s and is an excellent depiction of a woman engaged in a domestic and subsistence activity. The skill of sewing warm, well-made clothing was vital to life in the North, every bit as crucial as the hunt itself. Though the artist’s name is unknown, the work endures as a tribute to women whose hands and knowledge sustained their families and communities.
