Carved from luminous greenstone quarried at Aberdeen Bay in the late 1950s or early 1960s, the sculpture carries a striking presence despite its modest scale. The sallow, gaunt face with slightly upturned eyes and a sharply defined chin hints at portraiture, though the identity of its subject remains unknown. While the artist, too, is unidentified, the lavish detail and assured handling of the stone reveal an accomplished hand. Each plane and contour conveys a deep understanding of both the material and human expression.
